From ecological vision to action
Designing with life
Across cities, ecosystems, and economies
Building with living systems requires strategy, design, capital, and coordinated execution across interdependent systems. We partner with organizations to develop, fund, and implement projects that restore landscapes, reshape food systems, advance climate action, and bring life-centric initiatives to market.
If you’re working towards life-centric futures,
so are we.
Our domains of expertise are distinct in focus,
and integrated in practice.
-
We restore degraded ecosystems and design long-term stewardship systems, from coastal and watershed restoration to master planning for parks, preserves, and working lands.
-
We support founders building within the regenerative and climate economy, spanning early-stage strategy and product-market fit, go-to-market strategy, and product, program, and regenerative organizational design.
-
We design the capital systems that enable regenerative projects, structuring funding strategies and emerging nature-based financial instruments, including biodiversity credits and philanthropic strategy.
-
We help cities and regions translate climate ambition into implementation, spanning climate action and resilience planning, regional land use, and embedding climate action into policy, planning, and governance.
-
We design and implement regional and urban food systems, spanning regional food strategies and plans, food policy councils and governance structures, and urban agriculture policy and integration into climate plans.
-
We bring projects, organizations, and products to life through strategic communications, spanning brand and narrative development, go-to-market communications strategy, multi-channel campaigns, and thought leadership for climate and systems change.
HOW WE WORK
Regenerative development is a thousand-year civilizational redesign process.
We are drawn to keystone initiatives that are place-based and systems-level, with the potential to become replicable demonstrations of what designing with life at scale makes possible. We look for partners ready to build on long-term horizons, and we aim to serve as key development partners across many stages of that work.
We engage at every stage, from early shaping and strategy through capital architecture, governance design, and implementation, within a single domain or across the full arc as initiatives evolve. In every case, we work from the terrain of real-world conditions, where the problems of design, implementation, governance, and finance have to be solved together in the field.
Our work is grounded in living systems, regenerative business and multi-capital frameworks, place-based and bioregional practice, and nature-led design.
Our Team
Sarah Baxendell
Head of Regenerative DesignSarah Baxendell is a regenerative designer and educator at the frontier of designing for the living world. She founded ArtEcology in 2011 believing the regenerative transition demands better design, grounded in living systems principles, prioritizing ecosystem restoration and the protection of biodiversity at scale.
She founded and directed Hilltop Urban Farm, one of America's largest urban farms, and helped build Regen Network's biodiversity marketplace from inception. She advises on conservation strategies and nature finance for Walkers Reserve Barbados. Across her career she has raised over $40 million for regenerative initiatives.
Emily Rogers leads storytelling at ArtEcology, bringing 10+ years of marketing strategy and product positioning expertise to climate tech and environmental non-profits. She has developed go-to-market strategies, brand narratives, and vibrant ecosystems for Regen Network and Walkers Reserve.
Her work spans B2B marketing strategy, climate finance storytelling, and campaign development for voluntary carbon markets and regenerative brands. Emily helps organizations to bridge technical innovation and market adoption, turning complexity into clear, actionable narratives.
